History of the Cohiba Brand

What does the word “Cohiba” mean
Cohiba (koh-HEE-bah) is easy and smooth to pronounce, with an almost musical sound. The name comes from the Taíno language and means “tobacco.” This was the language spoken by the native Arawak people of Cuba long before the Spanish conquest.
How the Cohiba brand was created
According to history, these cigars were originally made for Fidel Castro’s chief bodyguard. One day, out of curiosity, Castro tried one and was impressed by its flavor. He then ordered new batches, eventually making Cohiba his personal cigar.
Cohiba was unattainable for money
For years, Cohiba could only be obtained if Castro himself gave it. These cigars were selectively gifted as diplomatic presents to high-ranking officials, heads of state, or people whom Castro deemed worthy.
Craftsmanship and quality
Cohiba stands out not only for its rich history but also for its impeccable craftsmanship. Each Cohiba cigar is hand-rolled by highly skilled cigar rollers using only the finest tobacco leaves, selected from Cuba’s Vuelta Abajo region. This region is renowned for its ideal climate and soil conditions, producing tobacco with exceptional flavor and aroma.
Cohiba cigars have maintained their exceptional status among cigar enthusiasts for years, thanks to their high quality and rich history.
